Cumbria Freemasons hosted a poignant and memorable VE Day celebration on the serene waters of Windermere, on Thursday evening.
The event, held on a beautifully decorated boat, brought together the community to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought during the historic events.
The highlight of the evening was a breath-taking display of light that coincided with the lighting of beacons across the region.
Each guest was given a tea light, creating a mesmerising and heartfelt tribute as the boat gently glided across the lake.
The cruise was one of more than 1,000 beacon lighting events nationwide, part of the official VE Day 80 programme which united communities across the UK and overseas.
At 9.30 pm, towns, villages and ships alike paused to sing the hymn I Vow to Thee My Country, their lights and voices symbolising the peace secured eight decades ago.
The celebration was not only a tribute to the past but also a reminder of the enduring spirit of unity and remembrance.
Neil Dixon, spokesman for Cumbria Freemasons, said: “Serving the community is at the heart of our organisation, and we take great pride in this commitment and this was a great example of this. We express our gratitude to all who attended and contributed to the success of this special occasion.”
Cumbria Freemasons thanked Windermere Lake Cruises for its support in making the event possible.
