
A man has been arrested after reports of a rape of a teen in a South Cumbrian town.
Cumbria police said the 26-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of rape following the incident in Kendal in the early hours of yesterday, Sunday May 11.
The incident was reported shortly after 2am and is alleged to have happened in the area of the new bridge in Gooseholme Park, at around 12.30am.
Officers arrested the 26-year-old man – from Kendal – at around 2.30am.
He has since been released on police bail while officers continue with their enquiries.
The victim is aged 17 and she is being supported by specialist officers, Cumbria police said.
Detectives are appealing for anyone with information which may assist their investigation to come forward.
