A man has appeared in court accused of falsely imprisoning, assaulting and strangling a woman.
Ross Henderson, 32, faces charges which were brought in the wake of incidents which are said to have occurred on February 26 last year.
They include one which alleges that he falsely imprisoned the woman, detaining her against her will, at Carlisle on that date.
Henderson is further alleged to have assaulted the woman, causing her actual bodily harm; intentionally strangled her; and been in possession of the controlled drug ketamine.
No pleas were formally entered by him to these allegations when he appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this morning.
The false imprisonment charge is classed as indictable only, which means it can only be dealt with by a crown court judge.
Henderson’s case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court, where he due to appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on June 9.
In the meantime Henderson, of Parkland Drive in the city, has been granted unconditional bail.
