An event will be held next week to celebrate a unique battle honour of a former Cumbrian regiment.

On Wednesday, at 6pm, Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life will mark the Arroyo dos Molinos at a reception to launch a new book about it.

The Arroyo dos Molinos was awarded to the the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment’s ancestor regiment, the 34th Foot The Cumberland Gentlemen for their outstanding performance in Spain on October 28 1811.

They captured large numbers of their French equivalent regiment the 34ème Ligne, six of their drums – The Arroyo Drums – and drum major’s baton.

The four authors of the new book, Singular Honour, will be on hand to sign copies of the book.

They include special guest, Sara Fragoso, from Spain. Sara is part of the team that organises the annual festival in Spain The Surprise, that celebrates the battle.

Members of Cumbria’s Cadet Force will welcome guests wearing reproduction bright yellow 1811 drummers’ uniforms.

The drums and drum major’s baton are displayed at the museum.
