This week in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League Workington Golf Club were crowned division 1 playoff champions and Workington Conservative Club were triumphant in the division 2 final, in two relatively one sided contests.
In the division 1 final a 3-1 victory for Workington Golf Club over Workington Veterans Club A started as Phil Sorfleet got the golfers off to the perfect start with some brilliant potting racing to a 37-9 lead.
As much as the Vets Club tried to claw the lead back the early advantage proved to be too much to overcome as Sorfleet eventually closed out the frame 60-21.
Frame two saw Kevin Basnett start well as Vets A captain constructed as 30-plus point lead.
A good long pot from Ismay saw the Golf Club cueist deliver three reds and blacks but as the contribution broke down Ismay’s chance seemed to have passed.
Using his experience Basnett limited Ismay to very little for the remainder of the frame as the five time county champion ran out a 72-38 victor.
At 1-1 Mark Tatton controlled the early exchanges in frame three keeping the golf club’s Bryan Walker on the back foot.
As the frame progressed Tatton remained the favourite but with consecutive strokes of fortune on the brown and blue, and a pot on the pink a couple of shots later, Walker effectively hit Tatton for six winning 43-33.
In what turned out to be the final frame of the match Vets A’s Mark Tunstall and the Golf Club’s Simon Frazer battled it out in a disjointed fourth frame.
However, in a close frame it was the golf club’s Frazer who ultimately held his nerve the better to deposit the final blue and pink for a 51-31 frame match and title victory.

In the division 2 playoff final, Workington Conservative Club produced a clinical performance to sweep aside United Club B 3-0 to claim the title.
In frame one Cons’ Julian Plaza and United B’s Richard Kirkham opened with some strong tactical play from both.
As this cautious approach continued the frame remained in the balance with just the blue remaining.
Facing a tricky long pot Plaza stroked it in beautifully and with the pink to follow the Cons marksman took the frame 59-48.
Two time county champion Alan Moore displayed his all round knowledge and potting to the maximum in frame two as the Cons veteran propelled his way to a 65-3 victory over a powerless Shane Tallentire for a 2-0 match lead.
Frame three saw Cons Dave Holland and United B’s Stephen Jackson duel, with the former making the better start.
As the frame progressed Holland grew stronger but with great resilience Jackson remained in touch.
Nevertheless, a tactical error from the United B captain let Holland in and in taking the balls he required the Cons cueist sealed the playoff crown with a 59-22 triumph.
