A lone Lake District walker was found by passers-by after he had collapsed.
The man, who was near Sty Head, was not responding and emergency services were called last Sunday, May 18.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue was called by the North West Ambulance Service.
The team said: “A full callout was made and helicopter support quickly requested, with some team members already on the hill making themselves available to divert their planned leisure walks.
“The North West Air Ambulance Charity from Blackpool was dispatched and was first on scene, but sadly the walker was declared deceased.
“Team members arrived and assisted with the transfer to the helicopter.
“We are thankful to Helimed 08 for flying the walker back to the valley, where team members took care of him before handing over to Cumbria police.
“A sad callout, and our sincere thoughts and condolences go to the walkers’ family and friends, and all those on the hill that were involved.”
