Two Lake District campers had to be rescued from a quarry when they became stuck due to heavy rainfall.
A trio of young men had camped in Hodge Close but when they awoke yesterday, Tuesday June 3, they found that overnight rainfall had made the two main exit routes difficult to use safely.
One of the three had managed to climb his way out, but the other two were stuck.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out at around 3.50pm by Cumbria police to help.
The team said the men had camped in a safe place in the quarry and added: “The team deployed two land rovers and one member went direct. Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service were already at the car park.
“A rope system was set up and they were both brought safely out of the quarry.”
