Steffi Hardy crowned a memorable season yesterday when she became Workington’s most capped international footballer, writes John Hastings.
And she marked the occasion by scoring her first goal for Cyprus as they won 2-1 in Georgia to secure a play-off spot in the UEFA Women’s Nations League.
By winning her seventh cap for Cyprus, Steffi passes the six Scotland caps won by Scott Dobie in 2002 and tops a glorious season for her, having already led Apollon Ladies to the Grand Slam of domestic trophies – League Championship, FA Cup, Super Cup and League Cup.
With twin sister Rio helping Rangers win the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup for the second year in succession, it has once again been a trophy-laden season for these talented ladies, both of whom Workington can be immensely proud and then some.
