A Lake District hotel has been named among the best in the world by a prestigious guide.

Hospitality guide La Liste has published its new ranking of the world’s finest places to stay and Gilpin Hotel and Lake House, near Windermere, is among the 1,000 venues listed.

It uses an algorithm, which scours hundreds of guidebooks, media outlets, and reviews to come up with the list.

The data is then analysed to give each establishment a score out of 100. The Gilpin Hotel was awarded 95.

The top 10 hotels in the list received scores of 99.5.

Thomas Ferrante , general manager of the Gilpin, which is owned by the Cunliffe family, said: “We’re over the moon. Scoring 95 and being one of just 96 hotels from the UK to make the list is such a proud moment for us.

“What makes it even more special is how La Liste brings everything together – from expert guidebooks and trusted travel publications to guest reviews from all over the world.

“Being recognised in that way means so much. It’s a real credit to our amazing team, who put their heart and soul into making every guest’s stay special.

“Barney, Zoë and I are thrilled to be flying the flag for the Lake District and will keep doing everything we can to make each stay unforgettable.”
