Volunteers of North Cumbria Search and Rescue have donated 3,500 hours of their time over the last 12 months.
Set up in the aftermath of Storm Desmond, the organisation is made up exclusively of volunteers, who give up their time to support the emergency services by providing a search and rescue service for those in need.
It is solely funded by donations, sponsorship and grants.
The volunteers provide specialist water and flood rescue and search capabilities to the region.
As well as rescues, the team take part in outreach events and present water safety advice to young people.
Mark Markwick, trustee and deputy team leader of North Cumbria Search and Rescue, said “I’m so proud of our team, in the last 12 months they have contributed 3,500 volunteer hours to the team and to our local community, and we have a very busy year ahead with many scheduled outreach and water safety events alongside team training and further emergency services support – the team deserve so many thanks.”
Work is continuing on a new base in Rockcliffe for the team.
Mark added: “We have received some incredibly generous donations from local businesses and community groups which, along with our team of volunteers, allows us to continue offering this invaluable service to Carlisle and the surrounding area.”
