20 shows rescheduled so far at Carlisle’s Sands Centre

Twenty shows have so far been rescheduled at the Sands Centre in Carlisle.

It was announced earlier this month that the pantomime and autumn events programme at the Sands Centre had been cancelled.

The postponement was caused by storm damage earlier this year, which had a significant impact on the work programme, said Cumberland Council.

Work to remove RAAC panels from The Sands Centre auditorium roof had to be extended after Storm Éowyn damaged the temporary canopy installed as part of the RAAC replacement.

Since then, contractors have been making the structure safe, as well as reprogramming and redesigning the work.

Before the storm in January this year, the council had aimed to have the roof work completed by late spring, with internal improvements completed over the summer followed by a new full programme of events starting in autumn.

But the damage to the temporary roof pushed the programme back and work is now planned to be completed over autumn and early winter.

This week, the Sands Centre team said they had been working with promoters and producers to reschedule as many of the affected shows as possible.

While some shows have had to be cancelled and people refunded for their tickets, so far, 20 shows have been rescheduled.

It said the team was continuing to reschedule shows and was hoping to announce more performances soon.
