A Cumbrian ukulele group has raised over £3,000 for county charities.
Morland Ukulele Group hosted Steaming MUGs, a cruise on The Raven courtesy of Ullswater ‘Steamers’ for 130 guests.
The sold-out event saw guests entertained by music from MUGs and The Rhubarb Thieves and the cruise was in aid of Annie Mawson’s Sunbeams Music Trust and Every Life Matters.
A total of £3,236.00 was raised which will be shared between the charities.
A spokesman from Sunbeams said: “We are deeply touched by the support of MUGs and The Rhubarb Thieves. Their generous support over numerous years has helped raise enormous funds to enable our musicians to deliver important Community Music Therapy to our beneficiaries within Cumbria.
“We simply couldn’t achieve what we do without the help of our supporters. Enormous thanks to all involved for making a difference to the lives of the children, adults and their families who receive improved health and wellbeing following the regular Music for Life and Music for Dignity sessions.”
A representative for Every Life Matters added: “We are absolutely humbled by the fundraising efforts of MUGs and The Rhubarb Thieves. Our work supporting those bereaved by suicide continues to rely on dedicated fundraisers in our local communities.
“Funds raised allow us to get support to people in those early weeks and months after the loss, to provide both emotional and practical support.”
MUGs thanked Ullswater ‘Steamers’, Brigid Garvey and Brian Woodall of The Rhubarb Thieves and businesses which donated raffle prizes. They were The Patterdale Hotel, The Ullswater Inn Glenridding, The Pooley Bridge Inn, Inn On The Lake Glenridding, Larch Cottage Nurseries Melkinthorpe, The Pot Place Plumpton, Chestnut House Pooley Bridge, The Secret Garden Pooley Bridge, RR Cornershop Glenridding, The Crown Inn Pooley Bridge, Jolly Biscuits by JD (online bespoke biscuits) and Verey Books Pooley Bridge.
