Around 5,000 people are expected to flock to Carlisle over three days next month when the University of Cumbria summer 2025 graduations take place.
Ceremonies will be held at Carlisle Cathedral on Tuesday July 15, Wednesday July 16 and Thursday July 17 to celebrate the achievements of some 1,500 who are the latest to complete higher levels of learning.
Flying the flag for our region, such is its reach and impact, many of the university’s graduands will come to the city from across the county and northern England as well as from all corners of the UK and the world.
Their new skills, knowledge and achievements are not only something that they will be celebrating with their loved ones and friends.
Artists, teachers, health professionals, project managers, engineers, conservationists – the list goes on.
Every single day they are contributing to the success of our businesses, organisations and public services – across Cumbria and far beyond, now and for the future.
Graduates also power economic growth and, earlier this year, data from Universities UK revealed that graduates in the North West account for 50% of the workforce.
By 2035 the UK will require a workforce where 61% hold a higher education qualification compared to 52 per cent today. Government forecasts also show that over the next decade the UK economy will need 1.7 million more workers in occupations associated with graduate skills.
So, let’s showcase what graduate skills are doing for our businesses, our organisations, our city, and our communities.
