A two-vehicle collision closed the A685 at Tebay in both directions.
The incident happened at around 3.50pm yesterday, Tuesday June 24, and emergency services were called to the scene.
The road was closed from Junction 38 on the M6 to the Orton turn-off.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area.
