A Kendal school is celebrating its 500th anniversary with a garden party this weekend.
The entire Kendal community is invited to party like it’s 1525 at the Kirkbie Kendal School event on Saturday in its grounds.
Founded during King Henry VIII’s reign, the school said the milestone year offered the perfect opportunity to honour the past, celebrate the present, and look ahead to a vibrant future.
Doors open at noon and the garden party will be officially opened by the mayor of Kendal Richard Sutton at 12.30pm.
The garden party will include photos and stories from past students and staff, talks on the history of education in Kendal, celebratory music and dance performances from students, traditional afternoon tea and refreshments, a raffle and the opportunity to tour the school and grounds.
The school will also unveil its ambitious projects for the future.

Headteacher Mark Harris said: “This is a momentous occasion in our school’s history, and we are thrilled to open our gates to the community for a day of celebration and reflection.
“Our 500th anniversary is not just about the past – it’s about the strong future we’re building together.
“We’re proud to see how our students, parents and staff have been throwing themselves into the anniversary with a range of fundraising and wellbeing challenges this year.
“We’re also enjoying receiving a wide range of school stories, photos, memorabilia and very welcome donations towards our school improvement projects from the community. I look forward to welcoming lots of people to our celebration on Saturday!”
The garden party runs from noon until 4pm on Saturday, June 28.
