A badger had to be put down after cable ties attached to its neck caused it severe injuries.

The badger, a protected species, was found in the Granby Road area of Grange-over-Sands on Friday, June 27.

Cumbria police is appealing for anyone who saw anything or has any information to come forward.

Members of the Lancashire Badger Group were able to catch the badger, who was found to have two cable ties attached to its neck, causing severe injury.

The badger was taken immediately for veterinary treatment, but despite best efforts the badger was too badly injured to be saved and had to be euthanised.

Badgers are fully protected by law and police said they would urge anyone with any information to contact them on 101 quoting log number 67 of 28 June 2025.

People can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or contact the Badger Trust via badgertrust.org.uk.
