Saturday saw a return to Spadeadam, although the weather was less favourable for everyone including the hounds.

The senior hounds were first to slip with 15 runners. Hot favourite Sportsman was running after his impressive win on Tuesday but he would have stiff competition from the current championship leader Silver Dream.

As they came back on to the finish it was Sportsman who notched up his seventh win for Willie and Daphne Mark. Millie’s Lass finished in second place for George McGimpsey and Gillian and Millie Telford. Busy Again took third for Alan Blacklock and Carole Harrison.

The pups were up next with four hounds – Delta Fortune was favourite. When they showed on to the finish three hounds were clear but Delta Fortune came on to take his 11th win for Sarah and Baz Harper and Haretly Robinson. Tucker for Nicola McMaster and Anthony Skelton finished a couple of yards behind in second place with Kennel mate Silver Star in this. Busy Rascal for Alan Blacklock and Carole Harrison took the last ticket in fourth place.

The Puppy Maidens were next with six hounds. As they showed on the finish they were well strung out, with Miterdale Wow for Sophie Steele the first to finish.

There was a gap to the second hound which was Lee, Haley, George and Joey Wall, Sandra Mordue and Ted Storrow Denton Phantom. There was a bigger gap to the third hound which was kennel mate Denton Adonis and then finally Stretch finished for Tania Satterthwaite. Only four out of the six finished.

The Open Maidens were next with 15 hounds. Visibility had improved slightly and a group of four hounds were together on the finish. Meadow Lane claimed the first ticket for Paul Airey and Joanne Hodgson, with Discover in second place for the Lindsay sisters and then it was Malcolm Holme’s two hounds Senor in third place and Senorita in fourth place.

The last race of the afternoon was the open restricted with a slip of 16. As they showed on the finish there were four hounds again and it was the Paul Airey and Joanne Hodgson kennel who showed the best finish with Meadow Artisan coming from third place to take the win from Dear Catcher in second place for Cathy, Joy and Brian Lister. Millie’s Lad finished in third place for George McGimpsey and Gillian and Millie Telford.

Trailing resumes tonight, Monday June 30, at Kirkland when all the hounds get the chance to have a look round the trail prior to the Festival Trails which are due to take place on July 5.
