A Lake District guest house is on the market for almost £1.4 million.

The Gables in Ambleside is being sold by specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co for £1.395m.

Since 1946, The Gables guest house welcomes thousands of visitors every year.

The Victorian residence, on the approach to Ambleside Parish Church, has 17 en suite bedrooms and a breakfast room.

The property also includes a separate three-bedroom manager’s apartment.

Previous owner Panchadcharam Ponnuthurai has decided to move on from the property to be closer to his family.

He said: “I was delighted when I took on The Gables guest house as I had found a great business and was delighted to welcome so many new and returning guests.

“The Gables continued to meet and exceed expectations due to fantastic, local staff. Since I bought the guest house, our family circumstances have changed and as I am now spending more time with family in other parts of the UK.

“I have been privileged to have met wonderful guests during my time here, and we do hope that the new owners will enjoy their time here as much as I have.”

Graham Wilkinson, business agent – hotels at Christie & Co, who is handling the sale, added: “The Gables guest house offers the new owner a superb opportunity to acquire a larger than average guest house in the very heart of the Lake District and in one of the most popular and desirable trading locations in the north of England.”
