A £150,000 project to replace sewers in South Cumbria has been completed.
United Utilities replaced 112m of sewers in Little Urswick, near Ulverston to help improve water quality in Gleaston Beck.
The beck eventually flows into Morecambe Bay SSSI.
The sewer was replaced after groundwater was found to be infiltrating its network.
The project took around three months to complete and it will reduce the number of times that a storm overflow in the area operates.
Andrew Kendall, wastewater business leader for United Utilities in Cumbria, said: “Once we identified an issue with groundwater infiltrating the sewer network, our teams have worked quickly to identify a solution and carry the work out.
“This investment will help us to cut spills and improve water quality in Gleaston Beck.”
