A Carlisle man has embarked on a series of challenges to raise funds for charity.
Ian Milburn, director of Cumbria Renewables Ltd and the founder of IM Events, is supporting Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland and has been named as an ambassador for the charity.
Ian’s connection with Hospice at Home is both professional and personal. Earlier this year, his family received vital support from the charity while his father, Keith, was ill.
His father died at Eden Valley Hospice and Ian acknowledged the crucial role hospice at home played in offering the option of care at home, ensuring his family felt supported during such a difficult time.
Ian said: “I wanted to do something meaningful to say thank you. The care and compassion shown to my father and our family was exceptional. I know how important these services are, and I want to help ensure they’re there for other families when they need them most.”
His challenges will raise money for Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland, Eden Valley Hospice and Pancreatic Cancer UK.
Ian began his challenges on Father’s Day. He played four full rounds of golf at four clubs in a single day, walking more than 20 miles.
He played at Stoneyholme, Carlisle, Eden and Brampton golf clubs.
Ian’s upcoming challenges include half marathons in Newcastle, Edinburgh, the Great North Run and The Cumbrian Run – commemorating 40 years since Ian and his brother first ran with their dad.
Debbie McKenna, CEO of Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland, said: “We are truly honoured to have Ian as our charity ambassador.
“His determination, energy and heartfelt connection to our work are inspiring. Ian’s story shows the impact hospice care can make and the legacy for loved ones.
“We are incredibly grateful for the awareness and support Ian is generating. Every step Ian takes, every challenge he completes, helps us raise awareness of our services and provide care and comfort to more families across our community.”
