A Teenage Market will be held in Maryport next month.
Following on from the Teenage Markets held in Carlisle, young traders will be taking part in Maryport’s Taste of the Sea festival on August 9 and August 10.
Cumberland Council is working in partnership with Taste Cumbria and Maryport Horizons CIC to hold the market in the town and to give more young people an opportunity to take part.
Open to anyone aged between eight and 25, the Teenage Market offers young people the opportunity to try a business idea and gain experience of making, selling and marketing their own products in a risk-free environment.
The Teenage Market is a nationwide initiative set up by teenage brothers Joe and Tom Barratt in Stockport to transform town and city centres with the creativity of young people.
A gazebo and table will be provided and set up for traders on the day – all they have to do is bring themselves and the products they are selling.
Young traders from across West Cumbria are already signing up to take part in the market. Products include crochet soft toys and bags, macrame keyrings, 3D printed items, sweet treats and Cumbrian made streetwear.
Karen Harwood, whose daughter Rose will be attending her first Teenage Market at Maryport, said: “Rose has always loved making things for family and friends and then had the idea to set up her own business Fellcraft.
“Rose has been looking for places to sell her homemade crafts, so when she heard about The Teenage Market through school this seemed the perfect opportunity.”
