The annual Exhibition of Young Artists from schools in north Cumbria has opened at Rheged.
Organised by the Arts Society Cumbria, this year’s participating schools include Appleby Grammar School, Austin Friars Independent School, Keswick School, James Rennie School in Carlisle and Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith.
At the opening of the exhibition at the centre near Penrith, Sarah Dunning, of Westmorland Family, selected three prize-winning artworks.
They were Self-Portrait by Willow Wood, of Queen Elizabeth School, Fruit Salad by Fern Roberts, of Austin Friars School and Decay by Laura Reed, of Appleby Grammar School.
Fiona Campbell, who organised the exhibition with Stuart McElhinney, of the Arts Society Cumbria, said: “We are impressed by the accomplishment of these young artists who have been studying art for A-level and we are delighted to promote the teaching of art in our schools.”
The project has been carried out with the support of a community grant from The Arts Society.
The exhibition runs until September 9 and entry is free.
