Cumbria Opera Festival will take place next month – offering 10 days of music, drama and dance.
From Kendal to Keswick, from Barrow to the border, Cumbria Opera Festival 2025 is a unique county-wide celebration of everything opera has to offer.
It will be held from August 21 to August 30 across the county.
From the quintessential jazz styles of Porgy and Bess (featuring Summertime and It Ain’t Necessarily So) to Mozart’s comedic masterpiece The Marriage of Figaro, the festival will take you on a journey like never before.
Closing the Festival is an ambitious reimagining of Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, while Opera by Candlelight also tours the county: all the best bits of opera in an intimate, nocturnal setting.

World-renowned and Cumbrian-born Soprano Joan Rodgers CBE makes a much-anticipated return.
If you’ve never been to an opera, now’s your time to try it! This festival celebrates everything that’s magic about opera, but also celebrates Cumbria and the county we love. Come and help make Cumbria the UK’s new opera capital!
