A Lake District venue has been named among the 100 best local restaurants by the prestigious Good Food Guide.
Now in its 15th year, the Best Local Restaurant awards highlight independently run venues that define affordable and accessible dining across Britain. Almost 60,000 public nominations poured in from diners eager to champion their favourite spots.
The Yan, at Grasmere, is the only Cumbrian restaurant in the list.
The Good Food Guide said A Best Local Restaurant will generally meet the following criteria:
- Independently run; owned by the chef or a hands-on proprietor
- Offer regularly changing, seasonal menus at affordable prices
- Demonstrate strong relationships with local suppliers
- Be rooted in the local community
- Offer at least two dinner services a week
- Give customers a genuine, warm welcome
It is the third year The Yan has been recognised in the prestigious list.
The Yan at Broadrayne opened in 2019 and has picked up key industry awards and accolades, and earning praise for its uniqueness.
This year, it has added a fifth cottage – The Farmhouse – to the Grasmere site plus two brand new luxury glamping pods.
Georgina Keighley-King, operations director at The Yan, said: “Three times definitely is a charm! We’re over the moon to have made the UK’s top 100 best local restaurants for the third consecutive year, and to be the only restaurant flying the flag for Cumbria is a true honour.
“Any recognition is always special, but to make it onto this highly respected list is a real team effort.
“The perfect partnership of our talented kitchen team led by head chef Sam, and our fantastic front of house team ensure every person visiting The Yan has an exceptional, memorable experience from the moment they walk through our doors.
“We’re hugely grateful for the lovely guests and diners who choose to visit The Yan and then take time to recommend us and share their feedback with The Good Food Guide and others. We couldn’t do what we do – and wouldn’t enjoy it as much – without their support.”
