A West Cumbrian care company has launched an internal investigation after a video was posted on social media of a worker.
Bellcare, headquartered in Workington, said it was aware of the video involving the incident.
It had been posted by the pensioner’s granddaughter, who said the treatment her grandparent received was shameful – the carer can be heard swearing at the person in her care and being told she would get her coat and leave – which she then did.
A Bellcare spokesman said: “We are aware of a video currently circulating on social media involving an incident with a member of our staff in West Cumbria.
“In line with our internal procedures, we are conducting an immediate full and proper investigation into the incident.
“We are taking this matter very seriously, and the staff member in question is currently subject to disciplinary action and investigation and has been suspended while this process is ongoing.
“We want to make it absolutely clear that this incident is not representative of the standard of care we are committed to providing here at Bellcare.
“The well-being, safety, and dignity of those we support remain our highest priority.
“We want to reassure our community that we are investigating the actions seen in the video to determine further action.
“We are working closely with Adult Social Care and the Care Quality Commission to ensure the matter is handled appropriately and transparently.”
