A Carlisle man accused of trying to kidnap two women during separate incidents in the city centre has made a brief appearance in court.
Cumbria police made an initial appeal for witnesses after two incidents were reported to have happened in around 17 minutes on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 4.
The first was in the car park of the Halston hotel on Warwick Road, at 3.30pm and the second on Botchergate.
Stuart Sanderson, 58, of Nicholson Street, Carlisle, faces three charges.
Two allege that he attempted to kidnap two different women on June 4. A third alleges that on the same date Sanderson, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, had with him in Carlisle Railway Station a broken glass bottle neck.
Sanderson appeared remotely, from custody, over a video link at the city’s crown court this morning. He spoke to confirm his name and date of birth.
During a short hearing, Recorder Julian Shaw heard from Sanderson’s barrister, Andrew Evans. Mr Evans said that he had not yet been able to take full instructions from the defendant with a view to him entering pleas to the allegations he faces.
As a result, Recorder Shaw adjourned the case to Thursday.
Sanderson remains remanded in custody in the meantime.
