
Workington Reds will continue their pre-season build-up at Cleator Moor Celtic tonight (ko 7pm).
Celtic, who play in the West Lancashire League, start in earnest on August 2, a week ahead of the Reds.
While manager Darren Edmondson gave his players a break on Saturday, opposite number Gareth Agnew’s side were in more friendly action, losing 4-2 in an entertaining clash with a young Carlisle United side.
It’s probably an overdue return to Birks Road as Reds haven’t played a pre-season game there for 13 years.
They did play there in a Cumberland Cup semi-final seven years ago which ended in a 1-1 draw and then a 5-3 penalty shoot-out win for Celtic.
Jordan Little, now with Reds, scored one of the penalties for Celtic while Dav Symington was on the mark with his spot kick for the Reds.
After the trip to Celtic, Reds will visit Heaton Stannington on Saturday and will play away at Whitehaven next Tuesday.
The final run-out is against Carlisle United’s Youth squad on Saturday August 2.
So far they have lost 2-0 at Queen of the South and drawn 1-1 with both Penrith and Caledonian Braves.
