An Appleby car park and road will close as the next stage of Appleby’s flood scheme starts later this month.
Contractors are set to start work on Holme Street from July 28.
The road will be closed for five days and after this, a single lane closure will be in place for eight weeks.
Edenside Car Park will also be closed due to lack of vehicle access. The car park will be reopened once the initial work is completed, the Environment Agency said.
There will be parking available at Appleby Castle, between 9am and 5pm during the full road closure. There will be a fee of £5 for an all-day parking pass to access the castle car park.
The closure of Holme Street is to allow for a connection to the existing Doomgate culvert, in the centre of Holme Street, opposite Banks Lane.
The connection will link with the newly installed pipework beneath Chapel Street.
During the work, there will be access for pedestrian and dismounted cyclists around the working area.
Traffic lights will be in place at the bottom of Doomgate and Chapel Street.
Environment Agency project manager, Ross McKeown, said: “We are grateful to residents for the patience whilst this vital work is completed, and we are working to minimise disruption.
“Once the initial connection of the pipes has been made, we will partially reopen Holme Street, with the single lane access.”
