
Two Cumbrian women were among 100 people arrested across the country over the weekend after taking part in a Palestine Action protest in Manchester.
Catherine Rennie-Nash, 75, of Kendal, and Bel Lloyd, of Penrith, held signs in Manchester with 14 others saying ‘I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action’ outside the city’s cathedral.
Palestine Action became a proscribed terrorist organisation on July 5 and the women were arrested under the Terrorism Act.
Greater Manchester Police said it arrested 16 people on suspicion of support of a proscribed organisation.
