A special challenge at Workington tomorrow will see rugby league players swapping shoulder pads for cricket pads.

Workington Town are taking on their cricketing neighbours at the Valentine Ground in a charity game in memory of Wilf Harrison.

Wilf was a former director of Town and well known in the cricket community as a left arm spinner for both Workington and British Steel.

Workington Cricket Club have a number of Town supporters in their ranks and one player who represents both clubs.

Town forward Grant Reid has a Cumbria League century to his name, and has been playing a few games this season although doing more with the ball than the bat.

Just who will have his services for the big game still has to be decided.

The Memorial Challenge will carry sponsorship and there’s a unique offer in place for the game.

The Every Life Matters sponsorship will be decided by the highest bidder.

Bids are accepted until 9pm today and it will all be donated to suicide prevention charity Every Life Matters.

Match organisers say this sponsorship was not about what the sponsor got, but what the sponsor could do for a fantastic local charity.

The game will be played under T20 rules and gets underway at 6pm.
