Carlisle and Cumbria Artists will present their 56th annual exhibition at Carlisle Cathedral’s Fratry Hall next month.
There will be over 250 original paintings on display, along with cards for sale by 57 local artists.
The exhibition includes local landscapes, still life and abstract work in a wide variety of techniques and styles.
Carlisle and Cumbria Artists’ first exhibition took place at the old town hall in 1968.
It was organised by Molly Mawson to raise money to save the 15th century Tithe Barn.
The first exhibition was so successful that the Dean asked Mrs Mawson if future exhibitions could raise money for the cathedral.
Since then it has been an annual event in the city’s social calendar, raising valuable funds for the cathedral.
The Revd Canon Dr Benjamin Carter said:“We are greatly looking forward to the return of the annual Carlisle and Cumbria Artists exhibition and are proud to host this wonderful display by local, talented artists each year in our Fratry Hall.
“Please do call in to see the range of artwork on display. Entry is free, though any donations given will generously support the work, ministry and future of Carlisle Cathedral. Thank you to the artists for their continued support.”
The exhibition will run from Saturday August 2 to Sunday August 17, open 10am to 4pm each day. Admission is free, though donations are welcome.
