[E]ntries are now open for a festival race that will take runners up above Ambleside in the Lakes.

The Wansfell 10k trail race will be one of the highlights of this year’s Festival of the Fells in Ambleside, a four day gala of celebrating all that’s best about the hills, mountains, lakes and rivers around the town.

It was devised last year by experienced race organisers Mountain Run for the inaugural festival, and the runners who came along were impressed with the route. Mountain Run is the team that puts on races such as the Lakes Sky Ultra.

The Wansfell event, a mix of trail and fell, starts in Rothay Park and takes in both summits, Wansfell and Wansfell Pike. Full details can be found at http://www.mountainrun.co.uk/races/wansfell-10k-trail-race

The Festival of the Fells, sponsored this year by leading holiday cottage company Heart of the Lakes, will also feature guided walks, Nordic walking, guided swims, talks, films, live music and much more. The dates are September 21-24 and the programme will be available shortly at http://www.festivalofthefells.uk/.
