food-hygiene-rating[M]ILLOM eateries are among the most hygienic in Copeland, current ratings reveal.

Almost 97 per cent of premises in the town have achieved the highest national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme of five (very good), four (good) or three (satisfactory) following inspections carried out by Copeland Council’s Environmental Health team.

There are 64 food establishments registered in Millom that are subject to inspection, including pubs, restaurants, cafes, bakeries, greengrocers and schools.

Inspectors examine how well managed and hygienic food preparation and storage areas are.

Councillor Lena Hogg, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Health, said: “These figures are very welcome and show that Millom eateries set an incredibly high standard of hygiene and cleanliness.

“The assessments carried out by inspectors are robust, and for such a high percentage to maintain a three rating or above – with the vast majority at four or five – is testament to the good work being carried out, both by the establishments themselves and by this council in terms of working with owners and offering expert guidance to instil high standards.”
