Kendal College Summer Art Exhibition “Open Studios” Opens to the Public

DSCF4197[K]endal College art students’ summer exhibition opens to the public this week, showcased in the newly opened Wildman Street art gallery.

The exhibition opens at a time when visualizing a new future is more relevant than ever. As these Foundation and Level 3 art, design and photography students progress onto their degree courses and make their contribution to the creative industries that the UK is renowned for, some of them will become names to watch out for in the future.

DSCF4166The summer exhibition, entitled “Open Studios” includes work from a wide range of creative arts; from product design, illustration, graphic design and fine art to textiles, costume, film and photography.

Many of Kendal College’s art students have achieved degree offers at some of the UK’s most prestigious universities in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds and Northumberland and will be leaving Kendal to continue their exciting creative journey and some of them are already award winners!

DSCF4233Tilly Henry, a Foundation photography student was awarded the Brewery Arts Centre prize by Richard Foster, which includes a solo exhibition of her thought-provoking film “Plastic Planet”. Foundation textile student Tiana McInerney won the prestigious Abbot Hall “Romney” prize for her installation exploring minimalism and clutter. Tiana will also have the opportunity to exhibit her work at the Abbott Hall Gallery. Tiana also picked up the Mayor’s Award, presented by Kendal town mayor Cllr Andy Blackman and his wife.

The Open Studios exhibition is at the new Wildman Street gallery and is open to the public 12 – 5pm Monday to Thursday until the 29th June.

Prize Winners:

  • Romney Art Prize – Tiana McInerney, Foundation Studies Art and Design: Exhibiting in the front entrance of the Abbot Hall
  • Brewery Arts Award – Tilly Henry, Foundation Studies Photography: Solo exhibition at the Brewery, free tickets and vouchers
  • Mayors Award – Tiana McInerney, Foundation Studies Art and Design: Free art equipment
  • Staedtler Award – Milly Wagstaff, Level 2 Art and Design: £100 worth of free art materials
  • Langdale Award – Ruth Anderton, Foundation Studies Art and Design: A free spa day for 2
  • Textile Award – Maisy Postlethwaite, Extended Diploma Art and Design: Free Textile materials
  • Youdells Award – Alex Hart, Foundation Studies Art and Design: £50 Youdells voucher
