[A] successful Cumbrian business has now branched out into offering its award winning services to any business throughout the UK and further afield.

Commendium, based in Penrith, have launched a new company called The Tec Firm, aimed at addressing the digital skills gap found in the area.

Commendium delivered Cumbria County Councils’ business support service for the roll out of superfast internet in recent years; Big Cumbria, and the team behind it have now decided to offer further support through its subsidiary, The Tec Firm.

Based in Penrith, The Tec Firm aims to help small, medium and large business build their online presence, by helping to develop websites, social media, email marketing, SEO and other online technologies. Uniquely, in this highly competitive digital marketing world, The Tec Firm offer fixed price products with up-front costs directly through their website.

John Nelmes at The Tec Firm explained: “After visiting almost 20,000 business around the UK in the past 10 years, we have found that businesses are unsure of how to market their business online. Some have the skills but no time and some have the time but no skills. We aim to address this by giving businesses the control over how much of their online marketing they want to manage, leaving us the manage the rest”.

The business is well known through Cumbria, having regularly sponsored and assisted local and national First Responders groups and aims to continue its support. They have already assisted a number of notable local businesses, including Metcalfe Plant Hire and Muncaster Castle, with work ongoing to improve their digital presence.

The latest digital skills inquiry run by the government found that “approximately 50% of employers have digital skills gaps” and that “61% of surveyed businesses reported weaknesses in IT skills competencies”. Also, only 22% of SME’s actually enjoy the benefits of using ecommerce to showcase and sell their products and services online.

John Nelmes said “Digital Marketing does not need to be highly complicated, but addressing the needs of business owners who just need a helping hand to improve their online presence will reap huge benefits for the county and the UK in general. We offer personalised support to anyone who needs it”.

The Tec Firm already have proof that online marketing works, they signed up a number of new clients within an hour of their new website going live.
