[A] 73-year-old man has died following a two-car collision on the A5087 coast road at Ulverston yesterday (Tuesday 27 June).

The collision took place on the road between Bardsea and Baycliffe at around 2.10pm.

It involved a red Kia Rio and a silver Vauxhall Zafira.

The driver of the Kia Rio, Barrie Pilkington from Ulverston, subsequently died.

Two women travelling in the Zafira were taken to hospital with minor injuries but have since been discharged.

The family of Mr Pilkington said: “Barrie Pilkington sadly passed away yesterday and will be severely missed by his family and friends.

“He loved photography and fell walking and had even completed all the Wainwrights.

“He’s now free to explore any fell he wants.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision but has yet to come forward is asked to call Cumbria Police on 101 referencing incident number 139 of 27 June 2017.
