The Civic Church Service that took place in Workington on Sunday 30 July

[T]he Mayor of Workington, Cllr Ann Bales, joined fellow congregation members at Our Lady Star of the Sea & St Michael’s Church at Banklands in Workington on Sunday 30 July.

The Civic Service is a traditional date in the Mayoral calendar and is located at the Mayor’s place of worship or in a community hub. It’s an opportunity for the Mayor to celebrate their new role with the rest of the community, as well as an occasion for individuals to meet the Mayor formally.

Cllr Ann Bales chose the church as the location for her civic service as it holds a lot personal significance; it was the church in which she had her first communion, was confirmed, and, in 1971, was married.

The service was led by Father Paul Harrison with readings by Cllr Antony Mcguckin and Sue Hayman MP. It was well attended by members of the congregation and by invited dignitaries who included the Mayor of Allerdale, the Mayor of Carlisle, the Mayor of Cockermouth, the Mayor of Keswick, the Mayor of Silloth, the Mayor of Wigton and the Chairman of Cumbria County Council.
