A lone walker was injured after he fell while out in the Lake District.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team has just released information about the call out, on July 20, to Brown Tongue on Scafell Pike.

The volunteer team was called at around 7pm by the North West Ambulance Service.

The walker had sustained head and facial injuries after falling on a steep downhill section of the path.

Passing walkers had called it in and were supporting him.

The team said: “On arrival, shelter, warm clothing and a full medical assessment was made. Multiple injuries had been sustained. The walker was placed into a vacuum mattress – full body splint – and then into the team stretcher.

“On arrival at Brackenclose, a handover to an ambulance crew was made, before returning to base and resetting the vehicles.

“We hope he recovers quickly from his injuries. We’d also like to thank the passing walking group for their kindness and care for the lone walker.”

The following day, July 21, the team was called at around 12.30pm to Hollow Stones on Scafell Pike about another lone walker who had fallen high on the fell.

The team said: “He had suffered a cut to his head, but had been bandaged up by passing well-prepared walkers.

“The walker had continued to descend, but then felt very tired and light headed, and had come to a stop at Hollow Stones.

“The team was called out and made their way up the valley. As team members started to ascend, the better news was received that the walker had recovered enough to start to descend again, with assistance from the other walkers.

“As team members met the walker, an assessment was made, before he stoically continued to descend all the way to Brackenclose.

“Kindly, one of the passing walkers then took the walker to hospital for further assessment and treatment.

“We hope he recovers quickly from his injuries. Again, some caring people in multiple walking groups made all the difference to the lone walker who was having a bad day on the fell, and also saved us significant time and effort. Thanks to all those who assisted.”

These were the 92nd and 93rd call outs for the team in 2025.
