Eden’s Great Taste winners: Cranstons, Dalemain Marmalade, Mr Vikkis and Country Puddings.

[M]aster Butchers Cranstons have scooped 4 Great Taste Awards which are widely considered the Oscars of the food world.

Their 4 gold awards are part of a wider local success story with Eden based Mr Vikkis, Country Puddings and Dalemain Marmalades also picking up Great Taste Golds. In total a whopping 49 Cumbrian products picked up Great Taste Awards highlighting the strength of the counties food and drink scene.

Cranstons were awarded a coveted 2 star gold for their 21 day hung Tomahawk steak, a beef rib eye steak, aged ‘in house’ and sold on the bone. It has a sweet, rich, gelatinous character from the generous marbling of fat and flavour from the bone. Cranstons Hunstman Pie which combines ham hock, chicken and pork with apricot stuffing picked up a 1 star gold along with Cranstons Dry Cured Streaky Bacon and Salt Beef.

The Great Taste Awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food and are the acknowledged benchmark for speciality food and drink. They have been described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world. Great Taste is simply about taste, not clever branding or smart packaging.  Judges are presented simply with the unpackaged food- they taste, confer and re-taste before making the decision on whether a product should be awarded a gold credit

Philip Cranston, Managing Director said: “We are thrilled to have won 4 Great Taste Awards this year, the huntsman pie, salt beef and tomahawk steaks are relatively new to our range so it’s wonderful that their quality has been recognised by the discerning Great Taste judges. We are proud to be part of a really successful year for Cumbria, the Cumbrian food scene is really exciting right now with so many talented and passionate brands .

“Cranstons are proud stockists of fellow winners Bruce and Luke’s Coffee, Country Puddings, Mr Vikki’s, Kin Vodka, Lakeland Mues, Dalemain marmalades, Claire’s handmade, Hawkshead and Mr Vikki’s so customers wanting to try Great Taste certified products will not be disappointed!”

Adam Marks of Mr Vikki’s ‘’The 6 Great Taste Awards we have won this year are a real milestone for Mr Vikki’s as they take our Great Taste Gold tally to over 100. The Great Taste Award judges are really strict so it’s great to have the quality of our products authenticated each year’’.

Lynne Mallinson, Country Puddings said: “I am delighted that another of our products has received a coveted Great Taste Gold. The awards are true mark of quality and our staff are always excited to hear what we have won each year, the award success is recognition for all the hard work they put in to make our pudding range special.”

Florence Linderman said: “The Dalemain team are thrilled to have won Two Great Taste Golds this year. Dalemain’s marmalades are all made to old family recipes, Jane’s Marmalade which picked up a 2 star Great Taste Gold is the marmalade that Jane Hassel-McCosh used to make as a girl with her mother.”
