Carlisle Crown Court

[A] DANGER driver who led police on a Christmas Day car chase in Carlisle has been handed an eight-week jail term.

Lee McCutcheon, 26, was spotted speeding in his Vauxhall Astra on a residential city road at around 1pm.

As police pursued him with blue lights on, McCutcheon drove at high speed along Newtown and Moorhouse roads. He lost control and crashed.

But Carlisle Crown Court heard he then ran through gardens as he attempted to evade capture.

He was eventually traced, and later pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving, no insurance, failing to co-operate with a police drug test and possessing cannabis.

McCutcheon, of no fixed address, was jailed for eight weeks by Judge Barbara Forrester. This was added to an existing prison sentence he is currently serving.

McCutcheon must also serve an 18-month driving ban upon release from custody.
