[C]arlisle Racecourse is getting set for some red-hot action both on and off the track on Sunday November 5th as it hosts a special Guy Fawkes Family Fun Race Day.

The eagerly-awaited meeting will not only feature Carlisle’s highest-class race of the National Hunt season – The Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase – but also a host of fun for all the family.

And the great news is children get in ABSOLUTELY FREE!

The fun will get underway as soon as the gates open at 10.55am with pony rides, pyro arts and crafts, a series of ‘Mad Science’ shows and a post-racing bonfire.

The activities for racegoers of all ages will have a Guy Fawkes theme as will many of the food stalls offering hearty autumnal fare.

Geraldine McKay, Carlisle Racecourse’s General Manager, said: “The Colin Parker is a top-class race which features some of the UK’s most exciting steeplechasers.

“It always draws racing fans from around the country and we expect another great day of top quality jumps racing.

“Over the last few years we have combined this first-class racing with family fun events alongside the track and they always prove very popular.

“This year – given the meeting falls on Sunday November 5th – we have a whole host of Guy Fawkes-themed fun lined up for youngsters of all ages.

“What makes days like this so wonderful is, as with all our race meetings, under-18s get in absolutely free. So, if you are looking for a great family day out that will not break the bank head down here for some cracking jumps racing and fun for everyone!”

The attractions include:

Pony Rides – We’ll transport the children back in time to 1605, the gun powder plot and the traditional transportation of the day.

Pyro Arts and Crafts – Our arts and crafts area will concentrate on painting and collages as we will run a competition across the day for the best piece of artwork depicting either a bonfire or fireworks. There will be prizes for the best in each age category.

Guy Fawkes Mad Science – Throughout the day the Mad Science team will perform three shows based around a Guy Fawkes theme. The shows are a real spectacle with visually amazing interactive experiments and great fun.

On the track there will be seven chase and hurdles races.

They include the landmark Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase. This Class 1 race was won last year by the Sue Thomson-trained seeyouatmidnight. In 2015 the race was won by Saphir Du Rheu who went on to run in both the 2016 Gold Cup and 2017 Grand National.

Adult tickets for The Guy Fawkes Family Race Day – Sunday November 5th – are £14.00 (in advance) or £17.00 (on the day). All under 18s get in free when accompanied by an adult. Gates open at 10.55am. First race is 12:55pm. Last race is 4.10pm.
