Chris Taylor to miss Whitehaven’s Keighley Cougars trip

Whitehaven will be without experienced centre Chris Taylor for Sunday’s trip to Keighley Cougars.

Taylor suffered a damaged shoulder in last week’s derby against Workington Town.

He has not been included in the 20 players named by coach Anthony Murray for the trip to Lawkholme Lane.

Whitehaven will also be without Jack Newbegin after he did not pass his head injury assessment.

As a result Haven have brought in Joe Lowe from Rochdale to cover in the half-back positions.

The club has also announced that Cameron Brown has been released from his contract to go home to Australia while ex-Kells centre Mason Lewthwaite has been released as well.

Brown had joined Haven in February after two years at Widnes but was recently suspended for seven matches which meant he wouldn’t be available again until the last two games of the season.

Lewthwaite was among a clutch of local players who joined Haven when they re-built their squad for this current season.

There is much speculation now that Haven and neighbours Workington Town could be ready to do a swap deal.

Town have Cieran Walker out of their squad and playing dual registration for his former amateur side Seaton Rangers, while Lewthwaite has already been linked to a move to the Fibrus Community Stadium.

Looking ahead to the game at Keighley, Murray said: “They have recently brought Alan Kilshaw in as coach and their performances have improved so I am expecting a tough game.

“With the squad they have, and with Alan in charge, I expect them to make a strong finish to the season.

“However I thought we played well in defeat against Town last Sunday. The only difference between the two sides was that they were more clinical with their finishing than we were.”

The Haven squad is: Dan Abram, Ethan Bickerdike, Josh Blinkhorn, Brad Brennan, Clarke Chambers, Karl Garner, Joe Hartley, Ellison Holgate, Jack Kellett, Joe Lowe, Rio McQuistan, Max Anderson-Moore, Ellis Nixon, Jake Pearce, Jordan Thomson, Daniel Spencer-Tonks, Mitchell Todd, Aaron Turnbull, Jay Weatherill.
