Carlisle Crown Court

[A] MAN and woman have been warned all sentencing options are open after they admitted child cruelty charges.

The West Cumbria-based pair, who can’t be identified, appeared in the dock at Carlisle Crown Court this afternoon for a short hearing in front of Judge James Adkin.

They each pleaded guilty to three offences of child cruelty which are said to have occurred on or before a date in December last year.

No details about the criminal conduct were outlined in court.

However, a barrister representing the man stated: “It is not a child cruelty case – it is a wilful neglect case.”

Background reports on the man and woman were requested by Judge Adkin, who adjourned the case until January 12.

The pair will be sentenced at the crown court on that date, and were granted bail until then.

But Judge Adkin warned them that “all options will be open” at that hearing.
