Lot 398 (estimate £20-30) A collection of vintage local steam rally and gathering brass keepsakes including Morecambe Traction Engine Club

[A] collection of brass keepsakes from Steam Gatherings and Rallies across Cumbria and Lancashire could make as much as £170 when they are put up for auction on Monday 12 February at 1818 Auctioneers.

The mementoes, ranging from a replica of the famous Massey Ferguson spanner to figures, key fobs and plaques, and dating from the early 1980s to the mid-2000s were given to all those who competed each year.

The annual events, a celebration of steam machines of all kinds, have grown from small local ‘steam ups’ to two day attractions drawing thousands of enthusiasts, like the two day Cumbria Steam Gathering at Flookburgh.

The commemorative brassware pays tribute to engines that have survived against all odds, often being recovered from scrap and wood yards, barns and fields and lovingly restored and maintained by amateur engineers.

“People are passionate about steam and these brass mementoes attract a lot of local interest, particularly the more unusual ones like the Van money box, and the two figures on the bench  which form part of lot 397” said 1818 Auctioneer’s Bill Nelson.

“We have mementoes from gatherings and rallies at Flookburgh, Morecambe, Distington near Workington and Blackpool. As well as a selection of vintage Lakeland Historic Car Club Motor badges. The five lots range in estimate from £15 to £60” he added.
