A short section of the road between Kirkby Stephen and Nateby will be closed for two week so bridge repair work can be carried out.
The B6259 from the Northern Viaduct Trust car park to the junction with the U3424 will be closed from 7.30am to 5pm from Monday, August 4 until Friday, August 15.
Essential masonry repairs will be carried out on Stenkrith Bridge.
Access for pedestrians, emergency vehicles and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times and outside the 7.30am to 5pm closure period the road will be fully open.
During the road closure times a signed diversion will be in place.
Westmorland & Furness Council said: “Although we recognise that the road closure will have some impact around Kirkby Stephen and we apologise for any inconvenience caused, undertaking this essential bridge repair work at this time will avoid the August bank holiday weekend and any disruption to school transport.
“It will also provide the optimum time for the masonry repair works with hopefully better weather conditions, minimising the possibility of delays and any extensions to the closure period.’’
