[A] Cumbria-based foodservice wholesaler has transformed parts of the old mill it occupies into modern offices after outgrowing its previous premises.

JMP Foodservice expanded its headquarters at Birks Mill, Sedbergh, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, from 72 sq ft to 266 sq ft to cope with increasing employee numbers.

The building now boasts four offices occupied by the accounts team, purchasing staff, transport manager, and directors. The main space is used by telesales and marketing personnel.

The project, which included a complex re-roofing job, was completed by local contractor G J Baines & Son Ltd and took 12 months to finish.

JMP Foodservice, which employs 40 people, worked in portacabins during the renovation, and has now moved into the brighter and more spacious building.

The wholesaler’s sales director Shaun Atherton said: “As we have grown and recruited more staff, the need for a bigger office became clear and we decided to build on our original base in the Yorkshire countryside.

“The team can’t believe the changes. It’s increased morale and there is a huge positive atmosphere around the building.

“It’s been a busy 12 months for JMP Foodservice thanks to client growth. As well as the recruitment and new offices, we invested in two new vehicles and reintroduced our catering exhibition, Caterfest, after a five-year hiatus.

“We’re excited to continue our growth in our revamped premises.”

Caterfest, held at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal, was attended by more than 150 caterers who sampled the latest food and drink products and discussed industry trends with manufacturers.

JMP Foodservice offers more than 1,500 frozen food products and more than 2,000 ambient and chilled products.

It is a member of foodservice buying group Fairway Foodservice, which covers the UK, Ireland, and Spain.
