[A]s thousands of swimmers from across the country are gearing up to take to waters of Windermere in this growing annual outdoor swimming event, a callout is being made for volunteer to join the fun.

Over recent years the Great North Swim has grown its participant numbers at a rapid rate with up to 10,000 participants now taking part and it’s just as popular among spectators who line the shores of Windermere. With the event ready to make a splash again next month, the Lake District National Park is on the lookout for Volunteer Event Stewards to offer a helping hand.

Beth Kennedy, Volunteers Team Leader, said: “The Great North Swim is a fantastic event which draws crowds from across the country. We’re looking for people who would like to join our team of volunteers for a few hours on one or more of the swim days, to help us give visitors and attendees a warm welcome to the Lake District.”

The weekend-long event is taking place next month, on 8 -10 June, and for the first time will be hosted at the Lake District Visitor Centre, Brockhole-on-Windermere.

Beth Kennedy added: “This is an exciting opportunity to be part of one of the biggest and most exciting events in the Lake District and the biggest open water swimming event in the UK. You’ll be helping to support swimmers and spectators alike to have an amazing day to remember.

The deadline for applications to be a Volunteer Event Steward is 31 May. To find out more about the role visit www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/caringfor/volunteering/currentvolunteeringopportunities or call Beth Kennedy on 01539 792606.
