[A] group of talented students will showcase the artwork that has earned them university places on sought-after degree courses at an exhibition at Barrow Sixth Form College.

Foundation Art and Design students will hold an exhibition of their work at Furness College’s Rating Lane campus on Friday 8 June from 4pm – 6pm.

All five artists have gained offers at different universities after studying on the post-18 course at Barrow Sixth Form’s Centre of Excellence for Art and Design, with some being selected from over 2,000 applicants.

Derian Meighan will progress to Manchester Metropolitan University to study Fine Art and will be joined by Dionne Parjillaga, who will study Graphic Design. Daniel Robinson has been offered a place at Kingston University to study Graphic Design, while Lois Graham will take up a place on Kingston University’s Film Design course. Darcie Taylor will head to Northumbria University to study Fine Art.

Nikki Conigliaro, Subject Leader for Art and Design/Photography, said: “The Art Foundation exhibition will give our students the opportunity to show off the talents that have led to their university offers.

“The students have really progressed during their time on the Art Foundation course and have found their own styles and areas of expertise.

“Their projects speak for themselves, so we look forward to welcoming their families, friends and members of the public to view their fantastic work.”

Following the Art Foundation exhibition, A Level Art and Design and A Level Photography students will get the chance to display their work.

Their exhibition will celebrate two years’ of work and feature a wide range of concepts, ideas and media from 23 students.

Nikki said: “The A Level exhibition is also a great opportunity for anyone interested in A Level Art and Design to see the high quality of work produced at Barrow Sixth Form’s Centre of Excellence for Art and Design.

“The majority of our students are progressing on to the Art Foundation at Barrow Sixth Form next year. We are very proud of our students and their hard work.”

The A Level Art and Design and A Level Photography takes place at Barrow Sixth Form College on Wednesday 13 June from 4pm – 6pm.
