[P]OLICE investigating a multiple casualty collision in Trafford overnight have made two arrests.

At 9.50pm yesterday evening, Thursday 31 May, police were called to Europa Way, Trafford Park to reports that a car had collided with a number of pedestrians.

Emergency services attended and seven people injured in the collision were taken to hospital. A 20-year-old woman is in critical condition and five people are being treated for serious injuries. A 23-year-old man who suffered minor injuries has been released from hospital.

It is believed that at the time of the incident there was a car meet event taking place in the area.

The car involved in the collision failed to stop at the scene.

A blue BMW 330D – believed to be involved in the collision – was located in the Salford area.

In the early hours of this morning, a 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision. He remains in police custody for questioning.

This afternoon, a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

There is no evidence to suggest that this is terrorism related at this stage.

GMP’s Chief Superintendent Wayne Miller, said: “The men we arrested remain in custody and we continue to question them as part of our investigation.

“We are doing everything we can to determine exactly what happened. We are appealing for anyone with any information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, to get in touch as a matter of urgency.

“We are especially keen to hear from anyone with video or dash-cam footage of the incident to please get in touch as soon as possible”

Information can be passed on to the Serious Collision Investigation Unit by calling 0161 856 4742 quoting incident number 2409 of 31/05/18 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
