[A] MAN who knifed his long-term partner in the chest inside his Whitehaven flat has been sent to prison.
Jason Brian Cogan left Zoe Bennett with a single stab wound following an incident late on February 17 after the pair had been drinking together and taking cannabis.
Miss Bennett needed hospital treatment and surgery having received a serious injury although Carlisle Crown Court heard she was expected to make a full recovery.
Cogan, 31, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding in court today (MON) and was jailed for 27 months. He spoke of having struck out with the knife in his hand to fend off his partner as they argued.
Cogan called the emergency services, and was overheard by an operator to say “I’m sorry babe” as he attempted to stem the blood flow while receiving medical advice over the phone.”
“It is clearly serious offending,” said Recorder Michael Murray as he handed down his sentence to Cogan, of Duke Street, Whitehaven. “It calls for immediate imprisonment.”
